Mirror Affect

Mirror Effect on Your Business

Written by Charmian Campbell, ActionCoaching

Have you ever considered your business as being a reflection of yourself?  Well it is.  Do you know what’s working for you and what’s not working? By answering these two simple questions you will unlock answers that you never considered before.

Working with business owners, I see their business take on its own personality that interestingly resembles the owner.    Let’s take Mary; she runs a thriving HR business, has built a team of 10 people around her and manages to bring great contracts for consulting work to the organisation. However looking inside her business, there is constant struggle and without profitability.  Her struggle with cashflow leads to worry about paying bills. Although she is fully committed to training and developing staff, exceptional service is impacted due to cost constraints on the team to provide quality outcomes. There is chaos in the day to day running of the organisation, and planning is a mere figment of the teams imagination.

So lets look at Mary, she suffers from stress and anxiety, functioning from a place of fear and desperation.  Due to the confusion that she creates through her stress and anxiety, she is unable to see things clearly in her business.  Consequently she flits from one thing to another. Only really finishing things that become so urgent, there is no escaping.   No one gets quality time from Mary as she is so caught up in her world of hurt that the team are sailing forward rudderless.

Can you see the reflection in Mary’s mirror.  Her mindset (of which the answer lies in many questions and acknowledgement of what lead there) has created a bottleneck which we will call “cashflow crisis”.  This in turn has reflected across the whole organisation.

My question is, what are you reflecting?
